Guest post: SWY34 recap from NL Brandon Wallace

As SWY 34’s National Leader I can say that despite the hybrid nature of this year’s program, SWY continued to deliver as a life-changing experience for all participants. The small discussion groups travelling to different prefectures throughout Japan on well thought-out itineraries allowed for in-depth friendships to form, which were further solidified during the voluntary activities, peer-learning seminars, cultural nights, and of course the national presentations. Canada’s delegation of impressive and ambitious youth put forth the best of our country’s diversity and talent. The SWY Alumni Association contributed greatly to the success of the delegation, from selecting applicants to providing pre-departure advice, and post-program support.

All alumni of SWY know how difficult it is to summarize the value of this program, and indeed all such people-to-people exchange programs. We are very grateful for the Japanese government for continuously investing to bring people together to discuss global issues and improve the world.
